Basic Function and Scope:

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent will provide diabetes education to individuals with diabetes and their families based on the current Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) Clinical Practice Guidelines for the prevention and management of diabetes in Canada and standards of practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Hours of Work:
Rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights, and weekends) as required.
Pay Rate:
$40.24-$57.58

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing;
  • C.L.S. Current Certification;
  • Diabetes Educator Certificate required – Program to meet criteria for International Diabetes Federation curriculum for Diabetes Health Profession Education.
  • Current unrestricted Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Canadian Diabetes Association – Diabetes Educator Section.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (Minimum 800 hours of diabetes education services).
  • Able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Diabetes;
  • Able to demonstrate effective skills in educational presentation to individuals and groups;
  • Able to demonstrate ability to perform basic internet research;
  • Able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Power Point, Excel and Outlook;
  • Must have previous proven good performance and attendance record;
  • Ability to analyze program statistics to facilitate educational program planning;
  • Ability to develop program indicators to assess educational outcomes.
