Echocardiogram

A safe, painless ultrasound test that helps doctors evaluate your heart’s structure and function, including how well your heart pumps and how its valves and chambers are working.
Clinician performs an ultrasound scan on an older patient lying on an exam table while viewing the monitor.

Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Echocardiography

An echocardiogram (or “echo”) is a non-invasive ultrasound test that uses sound waves to create images of the heart. It allows physicians to assess heart function, examine structures such as valves and chambers, and detect abnormalities. Echocardiography is essential in diagnosing heart disease, monitoring existing conditions, and guiding treatment decisions.
