Home Get Involved Volunteer Services
The Lennox & Addington County General Hospital (LACGH) Auxiliary was established in 1963, three years before the hospital opened. The Auxiliary’s first task was to raise funds to help equip the new hospital. In 2006, the organization became the Volunteer Services to LACGH.
Volunteers make the personal commitment to provide their time and talents in various ways. You will see the “red vests” offering support throughout the hospital.
Volunteers greet patients and visitors at the Main entrance, offer help with kiosk registration and give directions to in-hospital services such as Radiology, Laboratory, Outpatient Clinics. They also direct patients to the MRI, Bone Density, and Mammography clinics located offsite. Others offer direct help in the Emergency Department, Chemotherapy, and Diagnostic Imaging. We do friendly visiting in Long Term and Convalescent Care.
Volunteers also run a well stocked Coffee and Gift shop on site, sell Quests Lottery tickets at the front desk, and hold small fundraising events throughout the year. The money raised is used to fund various other activities and donations made throughout the year.
Since 1963, the purchase of essential medical equipment for the enhancement of patient care and therapy was a constant goal. In recent years, we have donated $60,000 to the LACGH Foundation’s MRI fundraising drive, much needed stretchers, a ring cutter and end tidal carbon dioxide monitor to the Emergency Department along with a blanket warmer for the MRI unit. Volunteer Services supplies activity kits to children waiting in the Emergency room, and gift bags at Christmas and Easter cards for patients in Convalescent Care. We donate $700 bursaries to each of three high- achieving secondary school graduates pursuing a career in health care programs.
Volunteering at LACGH is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. If you are interested, have any questions or would like more information, please contact Membership Coordinator Susan Jack at 613-354-3301 ext. 297, or by email at susan.jack@lacgh.napanee.on.ca.
A volunteer, by definition, is someone who offers their time and labour to help others or contribute to a cause or organization without being paid. Volunteers are special people. We give our time, generosity, compassion, and care with integrity. Volunteering can foster a sense of purpose, help build a network and have an impact on the community. Our volunteer members have all seen the difference that volunteering efforts can make in people’s lives. They know the personal value of service as a local volunteer. Our volunteers show up every time prepared to support our hospital and community.
Volunteers can be found throughout the hospital in patient care areas as well as at the Courtesy Desk, the Coffee and Gift Shop, and the QUESTS Desk. These are just some of the areas where volunteers provide support to the hospital. Recently, our new satellite Diagnostic Imaging site was added to house the services of Bone Density, Mammography and MRI. Our volunteers help support the patients receiving these services. We do have volunteers who work quietly behind the scenes to help with correspondence, representation on hospital committees, support fundraising efforts with baking, crafts, as well as offer some of their time at these notable events.
We are extremely fortunate to have strong support from the CEO, the Board of Directors, the Foundation and all the Staff at LACGH.
